Another UNESCO World Heritage Site, the heart of Provence, will impress you with it’s legacy of ecclesiastical architecture and a spirit of ancient Roman Catholic world. Avignon was the seat of papal power for several decades and it’s worldwide known palace Palais des Papes will mesmerise you with it’s story and atmosphere.
The Palais de Papes was the residence of seven Popes from 1309 to 1377 and is a testimony to the wealth and power of Christendom during the Middle Ages. Enjoy the visit of the Chapel of Saint John, the Great Audience Chamber, an enormous hall decorated with wall paintings, or feel the atmosphere of the grand events that took place at the immense Banqueting Hall and Consistory Hall.
The city hosts many festivals and events during the whole year, so you can attend the popular International Jazz Festival or a traditional Christmas market in December. Still, if this doesn’t sound too challenging for you, then take your own personal photographer in Avignon and climb the construction of the well known 17th century Saint Benezet Bridge, 900m long, making a life long memories that will be captured forever.
