In brief, my style has been described in three words: timeless, candid but elegant. Relax and enjoy the ride, I will be doing the heavy lifting for you, nothing to worry about, you’ll see.
In my life before photography, for 10 years I had a career as a biologist.
I’m a hot sauce connoisseur and I’m always on the search for a tasty meal, specially if it is Thai or Mexican.
Besides being an avid gym rat, I like sports like swimming.
In Kyoto we’re blessed with plentiful access to nature. We’re surrounded by forested mountains, rivers and tree-lined canals. My personal favourite is the Kamo river, a beautiful nature reserve and bird-watcher’s paradise that cuts right through the city centre. Arashiyama (literally Storm Mountain) is another famed beauty spot, where you can take a boat cruise through the Hozu River Gorge or visit the monkey park. Gosho (the Imperial Palace Park), and the Kyoto Botanical Gardens are also popular picnicking spots.
I speak Japanese, English, Spanish and a little Thai.
Javier is a professional Kyoto photographer, also available in Osaka and Nara. His style has been described in three words: timeless, candid, and elegant. He brings a former biologist’s patience and observational eye to every session, blending into a location until the moment finds itself.
Javier is based in Kyoto, where access to nature shapes much of how he works. He photographs along the Kamo River bird reserve cutting through the city centre, in the forested mountains and tree-lined canals that surround Kyoto, and at quieter spots like Gosho (the Imperial Palace Park) and the Kyoto Botanical Gardens. Arashiyama is another favourite, whether for boat cruises through the Hozu River Gorge or sessions near the monkey park. His Kyoto background gives him a deep familiarity with how light and seasonality shift across the Kansai region.
Beyond Kyoto, Javier covers Osaka — about 30 minutes south by train — where he shoots regularly at the Osaka Castle stone walls and inner moat, in the vintage lanes of Nakazakicho on quiet weekday mornings, and across the Kansai region’s larger photographic landscape. He also works in Nara, where the deer park and historic temples extend his coverage area. A single booking can move between cities when an itinerary calls for it.
Couples, proposals, honeymoons, and editorial-style portraits are where Javier’s quiet confidence stands out. Past clients describe him as professional and accommodating: Lalaine wrote that he managed to capture cherry blossom shots without the crowds, and John praised the night-shot results from a flexible session. For surprise proposals at Osaka Castle, he positions himself behind the curve of the Otemon-side stone walls or in the Nishinomaru cherry trees, often staying out of sight until the ring is out. Javier speaks Japanese, English, Spanish, and a little Thai, and offers add-on services including bouquet delivery and client pickup. He works well with travelers who want timeless, calm photography rather than something showy.
