Sofia, local photographer in Edinburgh
Style:
My most common received feedback is that I have a bubbly personality that makes people feel comfortable to express themselves around me and in front of the camera. My main goal is capturing genuine feelings in visually appealing compositions. I’m a flexible and easy-going person with lots of professional experience in portrait and travel photography which helps me adapt my style to each client’s needs and preferences.
I have been photoshooting and guiding tours for the past 7 years, so get ready for a time-travelling experience where I guide you through the myths and hidden gems of this beautiful city. Let’s have a great time while capturing great memories for you and your loved ones to look at for years to come!
Likes:
Passionate about photography and visual arts since I was a child, now a professional photographer and in love with Edinburgh. I have a curious nature, love experiencing new cultures and have lived in Greece, England and Scotland. I love working on personal art projects and I try to spend as much time as I can on my main passion, teaching visual arts and mentoring independent artists.
Recommended places:
Depending on the occasion I recommend the Prince’s street West Gardens, Calton Hill, Royal mile, Stockbridge, Victoria Street, The Leith Shore, Botanic Gardens and Arthur’s seat. The West Gardens are beautiful because there are plenty of flowers, greenery and the Edinburgh castle is in the background.
Calton Hill and Arthur’s seat because they have the best view of Edinburgh, the Royal Mile because it’s gothic and medieval and, one of my favourites, Stockbridge because the whole area looks magical like a fairytale.
Languages spoken:
I speak English and Greek fluently. Also some basic Italian and Spanish.
About Sofia
Sofia is an Edinburgh-based photographer whose portrait and travel work captures genuine emotion in carefully composed frames. With seven years of professional experience and a parallel background in tour guiding, she brings a warm, easygoing presence that helps couples, families, and solo travellers feel at ease in front of the camera.
Home Base
Sofia is based in Edinburgh and has known the city through years of photographing visitors at its most photogenic corners. She regularly shoots at Princes Street West Gardens, where flowers and greenery sit beneath the castle silhouette, and on Calton Hill, where the panorama stretches across the skyline. Her favourite walks weave through the Royal Mile for its gothic and medieval atmosphere, Victoria Street for its painted shopfronts, and Stockbridge for its fairytale lanes. Arthur’s Seat sits at the top of her sunrise list when clients are willing to climb. These locations also feature heavily in the Edinburgh photo spots resources on Localgrapher, which she draws on when planning routes for new clients.
Extended Coverage
Beyond Edinburgh, Sofia covers sessions in Glasgow and Stirling, giving travellers a chance to extend a Scottish trip into multiple looks. Glasgow brings industrial Victorian architecture, riverside walks along the Clyde, and the colourful corners of the West End. Stirling adds the dramatic backdrop of the castle on its volcanic crag and the surrounding countryside of the Forth Valley. Within Edinburgh itself, she also moves between Old Town closes, the Botanic Gardens, and the Leith Shore, matching neighbourhoods to the mood each client wants. Her broader Scottish coverage pairs naturally with the Localgrapher Edinburgh photo spots content when guests are choosing between iconic landmarks and quieter local pockets.
What to Expect
Working with Sofia tends to feel less like a formal shoot and more like exploring the city with a friend who happens to carry a camera. Her bubbly personality, common feedback from past clients, sets a relaxed pace that suits couples, families, honeymooners, and solo travellers. She speaks English and Greek fluently, with some Italian and Spanish, which helps international visitors feel understood from the first message. Her sessions blend portraits with movement and detail shots, drawing on the Edinburgh photoshoot guide content around weather and timing, and she is comfortable adapting if a proposal is in the plan, referencing the Edinburgh proposal guide for discreet location choices. Budget questions can be checked against the Edinburgh photographer cost guide before booking.
