Piha is New Zealand’s most famous surf beach. Situated on the west coast of the North Island, this black iron-sand beach has a reputation for awesome surf which rolls in over the Tasman Sea. Escape the hustle & bustle of Auckland city in beautiful Cornwall Park. Take a stroll along tree-lined avenues, picnic on the grassed slopes between lovely flower beds. Waiheke Island is the most populated and second-largest island in the Hauraki Gulf of New Zealand. Its ferry terminal in Matiatia Bay at the western end is 21.5 km from the central-city terminal in Auckland. The Auckland Domain is Auckland’s oldest park and at 75 hectares one of the largest in the city. Located in the central suburb of Grafton, the park contains all of the explosion crater and most of the surrounding tuff ring of the Pukekawa volcano. Affluent, residential Mount Eden is dominated by a volcanic peak also known as Maungawhau, with hiking and jogging trails leading to views over the Hauraki Gulf. Devonport is a relaxed bayside village with upscale cafes and seafood restaurants, as well as classic Kiwi pubs and fish and chips shops. Small boutiques and art dealerships line Victoria Road, while Devonport and Cheltenham beaches draw crowds. The volcanic cone of North Head has harbor views and underground army tunnels. Hikers also climb Mount Victoria, passing reservoir vents decorated as mushrooms.
