Acropolis
A visit to Athens must include a visit to the Acropolis. It is the most famous hill in the city. You must visit this landmark because this is where most of the Greek ruins are located, including the old citadel that gives it its name.
Acropolis is considered the highest point in ancient Greece, though it’s only 156 meters high. When you reach the Parthenon at the summit, you will definitely be able to look at all the breathtaking monuments that are built on its side and the modern side of Athens.
Parthenon
This is one of the most famous buildings in Athens and the whole of Greece. It is found at the top of Acropolis and is the epitome of the Doric architecture. It is quite historical and important in Greece because it was built to honor the famous goddess known as Athena Parthenos who protected the city during the Persian Wars.
It is decorated with many sculptures that are considered excellent examples of the Greek art.
Plaka
If you are a couple that enjoys photographs, then you will love the photos our photographer has been able to capture of families, couples and even friends at the Plaka district.
Located within Athens, the district spreads out to Syntagma and it resides under the Acropolis. This village is so magical; it looks like an island within a big city. It will be the perfect place to experience Greek culture at its best.
It is unique, with beautiful sceneries and several cafes, stone walkways and ancient trees.
Theatre of Dionysus
If you are mad about theatre, you are in luck! The Theatre of Dionysus is where you need to visit. Being the oldest theatre in Greece, most of the famous Greek comedies and tragedies were debuted on its incredible stage.
Unbelievably, this was originally a temple that was built in the sixth century BC. It is dedicated to Dionysus, the god of wine and merriment.
The National Garden
This has to be the most serene location in Athens. Spend time as a couple at the National Garden, and experience the most beautiful and sunny afternoons. You shall not forget it. Picture this; taking a walk hand in hand in a quiet and peaceful place that is away from the bustling city.
You will find The Royal garden here, which is a little piece of heaven, as it is the garden for the Royal Palace.
A vibrant plant life and beautiful canopy trees awaits you and your loved one. There are flower beds with beautiful flowers and statues decorating the gardens with small ruins of antiquity. It’s truly unforgettable.
Monastiraki
If you love to shop ’till you drop, then, Monastiraki is the place for you. It is a huge market in the historic Athens district. On weekdays, it is quiet with a few shops selling souvenirs, but on the weekends, it transforms into a flea market.
You will find vendors selling everything from carpets, antiques, junk, etc. You can shop for everything and anything at this market, or just sit by a nearby café and observe. But no one goes to Monastiraki to watch. Get in the mix and buy yourself some souvenirs. I mean how else will you boast that you visited Athens?
