Boris found the perfect location to propose to his long-time partner. Lake Garda, one of the most photogenic destinations in North Italy. All he needed was someone to capture the event and so he reached out to Andrea, a local event and vacation photographer.
Lake Garda, a Natural Wonder of Italy
Lake Garda is truly a unique place. It is the largest lake in Italy and sits squarely in the northern part of the country between Venice and Milan. The bed for the future lake was carved out by the grinding action of advancing glaciers thousands of feet thick. The new lake was eventually filled by the meltwater of the retreating glaciers at the end of the last Ice Age. Even the etymology is unique. Garda comes from the Germanic word Warda, which refers to a place of guard or observation.
Several battles have been fought around the place of guarding. The Romans fought the Alamanni in 268. Napolean I found himself here fighting Austria in 1797. And the Battle of Solferino happened in 1859. The area around Lake Garda has become much more peaceful in modern times. Gardaland, a famous Italian theme park, sits nearby. And several ferries allow visitors and locals to cross to various towns across the lake.
She Said Yes!
Andrea was in place and ready as Boris and his partner made their way up into the hills surrounding Lake Garda. They had discussed the location ahead of time so she could be ready to capture the surprise reaction of Boris’s fiancé to be.
Sure enough, when Boris went down on one knee Andrea was ready to snap away and capture the exact moments of the proposal. Happily, she said yes, and was eager to show off the ring and take a stroll around the area. The end of the album does a wonderful job of showcasing their love and new life together as they kiss and take in the scenery. Andrea’s captures help create a sense of aloneness in the wilderness for the newly engaged.

Andrea chose a very unique and creative color composition that emphasized the textures of the subjects and background over bright peppy colors. Decolor techniques need to be used carefully and in the right situations. Andrea chose very well here; the rocks and trees already have plenty of textures to add and there is relatively little bright color in the distant village or in the clothes of the couple.
