Lauren chose wisely to persuade her family to have a family photoshoot done in Rome. One of the most visited cities in the world, Rome is especially scenic. It’s almost impossible to take bad pictures there. Is anyone up for taking stellar photos of her family and Rome?
Why You Should Book a Family Photoshoot in All-Mighty Rome, Home of Empires
Rome almost needs no introduction. Most people around the world have heard of the legendary Italian city in one context or another. While the area has had people for several thousands of years, Rome has been a city for nearly 2800 of them.
Rome was known as the Eternal City, as well as the Capital of the World, epithets that certainly worked; ancient Rome was one of the largest cities in the world even then. Today the metro area of Rome is home to just over 4 million people, making it one of the most populous in Europe. Rome is sometimes considered the birthplace of Western civilization as well as the crossroads of Europe.
It’d be impossible to see everything Rome has to offer in a single trip, maybe even a single lifetime. The Colosseum is one of the most popular and iconic locations in Rome and is the largest amphitheater ever built to host a variety of shows. These ranged from munera performances highlighting the wealth of local families to the infamous and deadly gladiatorial fights.
Within Rome lies Vatican City, an independent entity wherein the Pope and Roman Catholic Church holds sway. The Vatican is supported entirely by donations and tourists who purchase memorabilia and visit the many museums and exhibits within the city-state. No visit to Rome would be complete without a trip here!

Lauren’s Family Photo Shoot in Rome
Paparazzi style is a unique take on a family photo shoot. Having someone taking candid photos is a great way to get images that are memorable and have an element of spontaneity that’s sometimes lacking in standard portrait shoots. It takes a rare sort of photographer to make candid family portraits come out well.
Luckily, Luca, our vacation photographer, was more than up to the task! Luca is a local family photographer based in Rome. Together, Lauren and Luca discussed what she wanted from the shoot and on a location best suited to candid photography. It was important that Rome’s cosmopolitan flavor was not be excluded, yet at the same time, they didn’t want so many people in the images that they took away from the family intimacy of the images.
They decided on the area surrounding the Colosseum. Having an instantly recognizable backdrop in the images would be a great reminder for other viewers. And there would be activity around but not so much as to distract from the happy family.

Both Lauren and her husband dressed their very best that day. The textures and clothing choices (bold, solid colors and stone and brickwork in the city) are especially great for black and white photography, which Luca does extremely well.
The depth of field, how much of the image is in sharp focus, is constantly varied, touching on historic monuments at times and other times focusing solely on the happy family. Even the angles Luca captures from are testaments to his dedication and skill as a photographer. It would have been pretty impossible for Lauren to do all this on her own. Hiring a local family photographer was an incredibly good choice for her trip to Rome!
