In Tavira, Portugal, where the Gilão River runs into the Atlantic Ocean, the beautiful Portuguese architecture and Moorish influences abound along the coast. As a picturesque locale that is situated in the Southeast part of the country, the town of Tavira is the perfect place to enjoy a low-key family trip in one of Portugal’s most beautiful destinations.
To celebrate the special event of her parent’s 50th wedding anniversary, Nicole and her family traveled to the charming town. Far away from the busy crowds of Lisbon and nearby Sevilla, Spain, our vacation photographer Patricia was able to catch the subtle beauty of the Algarve region fishing town, and the special moments Nicole’s family shared as they enjoyed their trip together.
To perfectly capture the unique quality of the couple’s milestone anniversary, the family spent time at one of Tavira’s most beautiful green spaces, Jardim do Coreto. Whether it comes to an ice cream cone in the heat of summer or a band playing on the green grass, there are few places more popular in town than this riverfront stretch.
Laughter in the Park
In the popular park of Jardim do Coreto, our photographer Patricia caught the group as they celebrated 50 years of marriage in one of Portugal’s most picturesque towns. As they recalled the years together and the happiness it had brought them, they smiled and laughed, looking forward to what the future could hold for them.
It may be a rare occurrence to revel in the company of extended family, so it was a treat to catch three generations enjoying each other’s conversation and laughter in front of the area’s striking white gazebo, a centerpiece of the park and the city itself.
The luminous morning light in the town was perfect for taking a series of striking shots that evoked the spirit of the park – passersby enjoying the morning, people laughing and sitting on benches to read the paper. The entire family laughed as they enjoyed the precious time together, a few moments in history that were perfectly captured by the click of the camera.
Pulling Smiles on the Ponte Romana
Close to the Jardim do Coreto is the Ponte Romana, a pedestrian bridge that stretches to the town’s Northeast side. As the perfect place to photograph the Portuguese townhouses and Moorish influences of the center, the Gilão River sits in the background beyond the ornate rails of the bridge. On days when the water is low, fishermen can be seen digging for clams from the Ponte.
To celebrate the anniversary trip and the beauty of downtown Tavira, the family threw up their hands in cheers and smiles, illuminating the closeness of their bond and a moment that would be cherished together. They even held a lock chained to the bridge’s rail, signifying the timelessness and longevity of their union.
Architecture & Eternity in a Moment
With the stunning backdrop of some of Tavira’s most beautiful buildings – a uniquely tiled wall and an ornate, yellow home – our anniversary photographer Patricia was able to capture many unique moments. The stunning architecture of the town was a perfect backdrop for a mood that quickly grew lighthearted and animated.
As the family laughed and joked, all smiles in front of the historic buildings, a time was made memorable in Southern Portugal that would forever recall a special anniversary.
