Romantic Vacation in Europe
Dan wanted to propose to his girlfriend while on vacation in Portimão, Portugal. Portimão is a beautiful port city in the Algarve region on Portugal’s southern coast. This friendly city is full of cafés and restaurants serving the freshest fish straight from the Mediterranean. In addition to the extensive shopping available, visitors to Portimão can enjoy the scenic promenade – once the old fishing docks – that leads to the picturesque tree-lined squares of the old town.
Unlike more popular beach towns, Portimão has retained its relaxed, low-key atmosphere. Mainly residential, its restaurants and bars are aimed at both locals and tourists alike. It’s a great alternative to the typical tourist hot spots in the Algarve and gives visitors a look at real Portuguese life.
It was in this relaxed, casual Mediterranean setting that Dan wanted to propose to his girlfriend. In order to capture the event, he hired Garrett, our professional vacation photographer. Dan’s girlfriend loves the beach and the ocean, so he knew that this would be the perfect spot to propose. He didn’t want traditional posed shots, but something more candid. And Garrett was easily able to accommodate this.
The Most Perfect Sunset Proposal Photo Shoot Ever
From a discreet distance, Garrett caught the moment when Dan went on bended knee on a clifftop overlooking the ocean. Giving the couple their privacy for this very intimate moment, Garrett still managed to photograph the moment Dan’s girlfriend gave her answer (yes, obviously!) and their subsequent happiness. Traditional engagement photoshoots do not catch a couple’s first reaction since the actual moment has long since passed. But with a professional proposal shoot, photographers can take excellent pictures of the precise moment when a couple becomes engaged.
Garrett then met up with the couple and took several images of them walking along the clifftop path, the natural colors of the white stone cliffs, greenery, and blue ocean around them. He even managed to capture the sun shining through their embrace. Later, the happy couple made their way to the beach for some more spectacular images. Garrett took advantage of the interesting natural features afforded by the area, including a small overhang from which the couple can be seen looking out over the ocean. In a true testament to his abilities, Garrett timed the photographs perfectly, capturing the magnificent ocean sunset, silhouetting the happy couple flawlessly.
And because Garrett is such a professional photographer, Dan and his new fiancé could feel comfortable sharing their affection in front of him. It is easy to forget that the photographer is even there, as they are living purely in the moment.
