After the successful engagement, the two lovers and their photographer took a leisurely stroll around the grounds. At the direction of Ales, the two posed in front of beautiful living art. The colors of the flowers stand in contrast to the relatively plain tones of the clothes the couple are wearing.
Part of the choice is no doubt practical in Dubai’s sultry climate. But it’s also clear Nadhir was committed to the ultimate surprise proposal. By suggesting a casual walk in the gardens in casual clothes there’s nothing to give away to his girlfriend. No suggestion of the romantic change that was about to occur.
Some of the shots also focused exclusively on the ring and the smiles of the two newly engaged lovers. Ales’ skill here is easy to see. The grounds of the Dubai Miracle Gardens are incredibly crowded yet in many of the shots it appears as if the two are entirely alone there. And he knows exactly when and where having the flowers helps add to a scene, such as when you have an expansive background. And when to minimize it and create a dreamy, bokeh filled background with the couple in crisp focus. In case you’re unfamiliar with the term, bokeh is the starry orbs that out of focus objects become when a photographer chooses an aperture setting that brings all of the focus onto a foreground subject.
