Dubai, the desert capital of the United Arab Emirates. A strange place to find a garden. Yet that’s exactly what Nadhir did when he decided he wanted to propose to his long-time partner. If you’re going to spend time somewhere as rare as a garden oasis in the desert, then you’ll need a professional photographer to document it. And that’s where Ales comes into the picture!
What Are the Dubai Miracle Gardens?
The Dubai Miracle Gardens are a natural wonder created on Valentine’s Day in 2013 at the cost of over $40 million AED ($11 million USD). With over 72,000 square meters of area, this is the largest flower garden in the world. Over 109 million flowers are maintained on the grounds, truly a miracle in the intense desert climate of Dubai. Dubai itself is something of a miracle when you consider the skyscrapers, land and sea reclamation projects, and easy access to air conditioning, international cuisine, and fresh water in the searing heat of the desert.
With such a profusion of beautiful sights it can be overwhelming if you’re trying to plan your event and ensure you’re there for your partner or friends. Having a local photographer means you’re free to enjoy sights like 109 million flowers and the face of your beloved as you go down on one knee unexpectedly. Also, it’s a good idea to coordinate with your photographer beforehand, as Nadhir and Ales did, to capture the very best angles and make best use of the available lighting.
A Walk Around the Grounds
After the successful engagement, the two lovers and their photographer took a leisurely stroll around the grounds. At the direction of Ales, the two posed in front of beautiful living art. The colors of the flowers stand in contrast to the relatively plain tones of the clothes the couple are wearing.
Part of the choice is no doubt practical in Dubai’s sultry climate. But it’s also clear Nadhir was committed to the ultimate surprise proposal. By suggesting a casual walk in the gardens in casual clothes there’s nothing to give away to his girlfriend. No suggestion of the romantic change that was about to occur.
Some of the shots also focused exclusively on the ring and the smiles of the two newly engaged lovers. Ales’ skill here is easy to see. The grounds of the Dubai Miracle Gardens are incredibly crowded yet in many of the shots it appears as if the two are entirely alone there. And he knows exactly when and where having the flowers helps add to a scene, such as when you have an expansive background. And when to minimize it and create a dreamy, bokeh filled background with the couple in crisp focus. In case you’re unfamiliar with the term, bokeh is the starry orbs that out of focus objects become when a photographer chooses an aperture setting that brings all of the focus onto a foreground subject.
Why Should I Hire a Photographer?
Next time you find yourself in a destination on an important event, be it an international proposal or a local vacation with your loved ones, consider hiring a family or event photographer to document. You’ll be able to enjoy yourself knowing that everything’s being covered by the photographer in the background. And with photos in hand your memories will never fade. Nor will your smiles; every time you look upon the professionally done work they’ll come right back to you.
